On a lovely Autumn day in Christchurch, CWS sends you this story of Tongan women working together for change
Strong communities are a source of strength. People working together can tackle situations that they would find daunting alone. In this Autumn Story, read how Ama Takiloa, a strong network of women’s groups spreads knowledge across Tonga.
Ama Takiloa’s track record is good – their efforts have enriched the lives of their communities and are improving family incomes and eating habits. By finding new markets for craft products, teaching the women to maintain and repair their water tanks, and sharing new and traditional gardening techniques, they are securing their future in a country where jobs are often scarce. With remittances from family overseas falling and the looming threat of severe cyclones, this is giving the women the confidence and dignity they deserve.
CWS partners like Ama Takiloa in Tonga want to make their vulnerable communities stronger. Working together to learn and support each other is the secret to their success, but they need help now to assist those living on the edge of poverty.
